Sukhoi Superjet missing in Indonesia
Reports just coming through: aircraft was in Asia on a demo flight; had left airport (presumably Jakarta) for a flight that should have lasted 30 mins; 3h later, no aircraft and fuel should have been exhausted. Reports still sketchy.

From AVHerald:
Indonesian Authorities reported the aircraft was enroute at 10,000 feet near Mount Salak when at about 15:30L (08:30Z) the crew requested and was cleared to descend to 6,000 feet. This proved to be the last radio transmission. Radar contact was lost when the aircraft was in a right hand turn descending through 6,200 feet.
Mount Salak is 2,211 meters/7254 feet high.

May 6, SSJ-100 rolled out of the runway in Kazan
May 9, SSJ-100 disappeared in Indonesia
oh God, what's going on?
Low visibility was reported, but they have EGPWS on board.
Too much time has passed already. But let's hope for the better. At least for the survivors.

Hmm time will tell. I see 004 at the shots.
But still this is not important.
Let's pray for the people who where on board.

It's RA-97004 in all the shots. Russian media also reports it's 004.
Bad news, it's already 7pm in Jakarta. Searches will be continued without helicopters.

In photo #22 It's 005, but it's really not important now and let's pray to good news.

They were cleared from 10,000' to 6,000'. In many countries, ATC is responsible for TRAFFIC separation only, not TERRAIN separation, thus they can clear you down to whatever altitude you ask for assuming there is no traffic. They expect the pilot to maintain his own terrain clearance.
EGPWS is a wonderful tool for situational awareness, but it cannot help when the terrain elevation change exceeds aircraft climb capability.
In a situation where he was descending in a turn, it's conceivable he turned toward higher terrain. A second concern is that, depending how fast he was descending, he couldn't transition from a descent to a climb fast enough, losing several hundred more feet before beginning a climb.
My thoughts and prayers are with those onboard and their families.

Yes, sure. Now there're rumors that RA-97004 wasn't equipped with EGPWS.

The large-scale search has been suspended until Thursday morning. Ground operation in the probable site of the crash will continue at night.
