OK, these are very difficult so I figure a clue now and then will help.
Here's the first clue: The newer sheep rims
... well, you didn't think I'd just tell you where to look did you?
For anyone that doesn't instantly recognise what's going on with this clue, it is an anagram that will help you, a bit.... when you've solved it.
Have fun
Paul

Yes, Brian... you have unravelled my woolly clue and your observations have also brought you one step closer. It is indeed an American airport!

OK. Doesn't exactly look like a busy international so I'm guessing mostly ga/business jet ?

I don't know enough about this airport to answer that Brian, although GA and Biz for sure, but picking out the aviation from the Hobbity verses below will help you get a bigger picture:
There's something about the Albatross
When you gaze upon its parity
It might look like a Goshawk
Surging across the Galaxy
Seven Two, Seven Two, Seven Two, Seven Two
I spy them there, and four to see
Seven Three, Seven Three, Seven Three, Seven Three
I can't see any but there might just be
Paul

Goshawk ? Hmmm, T45 Goshawk, modified version of BaE Hawk
so....a tentative foot in the water....
Naval Air Station Kingsville, Texas ?

Seven two, Seven three ..... 767-200/300 ?
But also GA/Biz. !!!
Stabbing in the dark here...although the bright blue sky screams California/Texas/Florida ?

Or....
Aaaaah...possibly Kingman, Arizona.
Galaxies and stored 767-200's and a busy GA/bizjet airfield

tenative foot, but the water's too cold for you to want to stay at this location...

Yes, well spotted in a spiral way, but be careful here that you don't read too much into your stars on that one...

... too convoluted, the information here is not ... refer back to the stanza.

You have a VERY LARGE stabbing utensil, too large for me just at this moment. Recap the poem, identify what you know I am saying and what you think I am saying and check back with me... to help you, there are no red herrings in the poem and no clues in this paragraph.

desert = a sea of a different sort, hot, very hot as far as temperature is concerned, but cold, too cold, as far as location is concerned.

OK. T45A Goshawk is the carrier version. GA/Bizjet so it's a land based field with a naval military AND civilian presence.
Yes ?

Mmmm, yes-ish Brian.... but don't read into this yet or be in too much of a rush otherwise you will get confused by the information.
I will lead you through the clues so that you know what they're saying but they need to be properly uncovered first. Rewind a bit and just go through the list:
1. which aircraft do you think you have definitely identified?
2. which aircraft do you think you haven't quite identified (i.e. which lines in the poem)?

Well...it's either the Albatross or the Goshawk.
So...Albatross ? Coastguard ?
Goshawk ? USN.
I'll look for a reply tomorrow. I'm off to bed for now.
TTFN.
