Default What's happen to Aeroflot's 777?

I don't see any flights from Moscow Aeroflot's Boeing 777 anymore. When they stop flying 777? I checked flightstats.com and I don't see any flights from SVO.

Stuart

PS - (if it does) Who airline has 777 from Aeroflot today?

They got rid of them few years ago. I do not know what exactly happened to all 777s but i.e. this one was sold to Vietnam Airlines:

Their biggest airplanes in a fleet are now 767-300s. For full, updated fleet please visit aeroflot.ru: http://www.aeroflot.ru/eng/company.asp?ob_no=741

I belive Aeroflot got rid of them a few years ago when they axed the AFL324 SVO-SEA-SFO route. That was quite a while ago, 2004 I think.

I believe that their lease on their 2 777s have expired.. And now, these 2 772s are leased to VN..

IL-96 fly to SFO too in around mid-1990.

Why SU dropped SFO?

Yes Paul, in the 1990s AFL324(SVO-SEA-SFO) was opperated by first IL-62s, then IL-96's, then 763's, and finally the 772 in 2000 I think.

When the 772s were gotten rid of, SU got rid of the SFO route. I think 763 service continued on the SVO-SEA, however.

I am unsure as to why the route didn't continue with the 763 and why SFO was dropped, it did well from what I can remember.

SVO-SFO would have pushed the 763 to its limits (over 5100nm), which would have meant payload and/or pax restrictions. Though it could have also been that the engine ratings SU has for their 763s didn't even allow the route to begin with.

Isn't SVO-LAX the longest flight operated by 767-300 in the world ? Those Russians are crazy ! lol. Btw how many more miles is SFO further from LAX when coming from Europe ?

True, though the route was SVO-SEA-SFO, all they dropped was the SFO segment at the time. The route was flown by 763s all throught the late 90s.

Even that meant pushing the 763 quite a bit , albeit obviously not as much as SVO-SFO.

The aircraft left Aeroflot in May and August 2005 and are now operating with Vietnam Airlines as VN-A147 and VN-A151.

I'm pretty sure SFO is closer when comming from Europe than LAX is.

Actually I think it should be IL-86. IL-86 has a longer fuselage than IL-96-300. And at least SU's website is still showing IL-86 as part of its fleet ( http://www.aeroflot.ru/eng/company.asp?ob_no=741 ) although I think they are on their way out.

It's impressive that SU serves all its long haul routes with just 7 767s and a handful of IL-96s.

Correct on both counts. The IL-86 is the larger plane, and also has the "advantage" in that it is used by SU as more of a high-density charter plane, whereas the IL-96 is a true longhaul plane cabinwise. Also, after having retired their TU-134s, the IL-86s are the next planes that will leave SU's fleet, and the retirement of the ILs should be concluded at the end of the summer season, IIRC.

The IL963 is strange imo. Where are the overhead luggage compartments for the middle section of the ac? Any possibilities for SU to go for some IL96-400's in the near future?

Ahh I forgot the good old Russian Jumbos. Yes correct Ils are the biggest.
Also Tu-154s are next on the retirenment list in the next 7-10 years. They will be switched to A320/A321s.

SU was supposed to take 6 more IL-96's. This was part of a deal that allowed them to obtain western aircraft without paying the import duties. But they managed to delay delivery of these for several years and Cubana ended up with some of them. They have now announced they will be taking 6 IL-96 freighters. Presumable this is in lieu of the 6 passenger a/c previously ordered. Apparently they actually want these as they can't get any MD-11's.

For passenger a/c they want only western models plus the SSJ. They plan to phase out TU-134's, TU-154's and IL-86's as soon as possible. The IL-96's will probably survive well into the next decade. I don't think they are interested in TU-204's or more passenger IL-96s. I also read somewhere their Skyteam agreement also excludes flights on Russian aircraft. Presumably the SSJ will be allowed?

yes, i see they will go for 22 A350's. It will be sad to see those Tu-134's and Tu-154's go, some good old Russian planes, but over time all ac are phased out. I was lucky to see a SU Tu-154 finalising its boarding at BEG for a flight back to SVO as i was landing from DXB, such a amazing looking ac in their fantastic scheme. I hope the IL96 will be around for quite a while. Im not impressed with Skyteam excluding flights with Russian/Soviet built ac. Any ac is safe as long as it has the appropriate attention and maintenance needed. I hope this will not be the case with the SSJ.

How boring it will be when the Russian skies are filled with Boeing and Airbus planes. I hope I get the oppertunity to catch some before they're gone.
