Night Shots
So if its not a sunset or long time exposure then is it rejected for being - Dark / Underexposed?

The time is not important for a photo to qualify as a dusk/dawn/night shot. The picture must have the 'night look' in it. The Air Canada photo above could just as well have been taken on a dull day at noon. Thats why it appears as dark and underexposed. I would brighten it up a bit.

I agree with Philip. The 767 pic has the gold ish dusk color to it, where the Air Canada pic doesn't, and like he said looks like it was taken on a cloudy day.

It's too low in the frame Bruno. Personally I don't think it's too dark but I guess it could use a slight britening up.

I center my shots from the highest point and lowest point on the a/c, so from the tail to to the top and then the gear to the bottom.

The best way to center is by using the center of the aircraft itself. It may look kinda funky at first, but it works.

That does work, but at times it does not. ie, it baffles me when someone uploads a photo with the fuselage in the centre, cuts off the top of the tail, then has lots of dead space in the bottom.

Bruno, the aircraft is too low in the frame. I can't help but repeat myself: the framing of a photo, i.e. the positioning of a subject in the photo frame is not science and not mathematics, even if there are sort of rules which may help, be it the rulle of thirds, or the golden section, or to keep equal distances from point A to B.
At the end of your cropping and so, look at the photo and ask yourself if it "feels" right. I don't have to measure anything in your photo to notice, that the aircraft "looks" to low in the frame, not much, but enough to make it look add.
Just as a help, my attempt at something similar: | PhotoID: 5801832 Photograph © Gerardo Dominguez |

It's pretty simple , if you drop the fuselage too low the height of the tail puts it all out of persepective and creates an 'uneven feel' , yet if you crop too high theres just far too much dead space underneath as 1/3 of the pic is plane and the other 2/3 empty space. my advice would be for 3/4 front and backs, 1/3 tail 1/3 fuselage 1/3 sky.
