OK. After the shuttle lands, it is then serviced. Anyhow, what are those cables and things dangling from the shuttle as seen in this pic? ie purpose?

If I remember, they are used to removed the various rocket fuels and such from the shuttle - it's highly toxic stuff and needs to be drained.

May it be something with the pressure/air/temperature difference. As I know the pressure in the shuttle differs from the pressure on the earth. That's also why shuttle pilots have to go through the whole process of "laeving the shuttle" which takes a bit. Maybe these pipes are supposed to suck the air out of the shuttle?
