my first thought was Blackhawk as well, but if only 2 died, and the story doesn't talk of survivors then maybe it was either an Apache or Littlebird AH-6?

I would assume, that a Blackhawk flying around that area would have a pilot, Co-Pilot, Flight Mechanic and atleast 1 gunner?

Either way, RIP.....

I'm willing to wager that the aircraft lost was a Kiowa. Crew of 2 and very common throughout Iraq.

I heard on the News today 2 Apache pilots were killed in a crash, but it was probably a diffrent crash. Anyway, RIP to the pilots.

man I'd hate flying choppers for the military. You're slow moving, loud, close to the ground, and extremely fragile...not a good combination.

Default Helicopter Crash in Iraq kills two

It might have been an AH1Y Cobra since several of those are being flown by the Marines in Iraq. The new AH1Z a completely updated Cobra with 4 main rotor blades and newer more powerful engines are starting to be delivered to the Marines but I don't think any of them have made it to the Iraqi theater of operations. These updated Cobras will out perform the AH64 Apaches. They are faster, more maneurverable and have a smaller radar signature than the Apache.
