BERLIN (Dow Jones)--Airbus (ABI.YY) will postpone the delivery of the world's biggest airliner, the A380, until late 2006, reports Financial Times Deutschland. The airline maker said it negotiated a new agreement with its first customer, Singapore Airlines (S55.SG), for the plane.

If they have one flying, I find it suspicious that they need a year and a half to work our all the kinks.

Aviation Week & Space Technology had quoted a date of June 2006 for the "nominal" first delivery to SQ. In the same article, SQ claims that it has NO confirmation of the actual schedule from 'bus. The article was from 3/28/2005.

Default Emirates A380 order

On the subject of A380 deliveries -- I note that Emirates Airlines has 40+ A380s on order.

I admit to being puzzled. Any idea what they're going to do with that many of these aircraft? Or is this one of those cases where normal economics doesn't apply?

This was bound to happen since the first flight was delayed by a few months. They need about a year to do the certification tests. Note that since this is a new Aircraft (and not a derivative) it doesnt have any "grandfather" FAA/JAA certificates to inherit from.

Im just wondering what the "financial" implications are for the deferred delivery (for SQ in particular).

On the bright side it will give airports more time to make improvements that will allow the plane to service that city.
