Will, baseball season is over and we don't have football during the week, we need something to do.
In all seriousness, the electoral college seems to be a system no longer necessary in this modern time.

That's what I said!
In 2000, more people voted for Al Gore than George Bush....but who was our president?
It's a sh!tty system that misrepresents the American people.

I know it was only established because the original writers of the Constitution thought the people couldnt make "wise" decisions.

Actually as I understand it was to give the more rural, less populated states an equal vote in the process. Otherwise a place like New York would have had a much bigger say in things than bumfu!# Kentucky.
Nowadays it probably isn't needed as much as it was then, with the country settled, more or less.

Not suprising, when voting is done in the West, Kerry will have a ton more electoral votes, remember that number for Bush includes Texas, so when Kerry gets California and many western states his tally will increase. So far their is no suprises so dont be too worried, that Kerry is behind.

Bush: 170
Kerry: 112
Note about the electoral college:
• U.S. presidents are elected to four-year terms by 538 Electoral College voters, one per senator and representative from each state, plus three from the District of Columbia. In 38 states, the voters are required by law to vote for the candidate who won the popular voter in their state, although all electors usually cast a ballot for the popular vote winner. A candidate must receive a majority of 270 votes to win the election.
So even though it might be redundant, in effect the electoral college is expressing the views of the people, and it is very rare for the state to fall for the candidate who is not backed by the popular vote.
