  • 2013 Airshow Cancellations (USA)

Thought I'd share the news in case anyone is planning to attend an airshow in the US from another continent (or even domestically).

Several airshows have been cancelled this year (all are AF shows, nothing Naval -yet), including Dover, Langley, Seymour-Johnson and Luke.

    Here is Luke's PR.

Depending on how well Congress can get its act together, all airshows that take place after April 1st are at a significant risk of cancellation, as sequestration would put an end to all non-essential flying from the DoD; this means all their airshows, open houses and military flying as well as static displays at civilian events would be cancelled.

I've been reading about this including the US Navy Blue Angels and USAF Thunderbirds who have airshows around here this year (Blue Angels at Rockford and Thunderbirds for Chicago's and Milwaukee's Air and Water Show). There are a lot of airshows that depend on them to bring the crowds and spend money and that would be a big impact for them. Especially for some of the free shows that they fly in.
