  • Trip Report: Kiev - Athens - Santorini - Moscow on Aegean Airlines (Airbus A320)

    Airline: Aegean Airlines
    Flight: 967
    Aircraft: Airbus A320-232
    Registration: SX-DGI
    Departure Airport: Kiev-Zhuliany (IEV), Ukraine
Arrival Airport: Athens-Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH), Greece
    Seat: 6A (Economy)

Aegean Airlines started regular non-stop flights between IEV and ATH in Spring 2013. Flights are operated by A319s and A320s aircraft depending on the number of tickets sold. That day we were given an A320 and the cabin was almost full.

SX-DGI was a nice 6 years old aircraft, the cabin was clean and bright inside. Seems like the company's making effort to keep their planes clean. Although, my window was dirty. Flight attendants were just doing their job without being extra attentive. Catering included Greek cuisine and was good but not substantial - no meat was offered in the meals, fine for vegetarians. Inflight entertainment meant magazines and music, no TVs or anything else on that particular aircraft. The flight was on time, no issues with the baggage. Upon arrival we took fast Metro train to the center of Athens.

    Departure Airport: Santorini-Thira (JTR), Greece
Arrival Airport: Athens-Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH), Greece

JTR is a nice little airport where civil airplanes share the runway with air force. I liked local Duty Free shop with good prices and the open roof garden overlooking the runway and the sea.

The flight departed with a light delay of 5-10 minutes, obviously because the airplane arrived from Athens just 30 minutes before scheduled departure. This was a new A320 and the cabin was clean and modern. It had comfortable seats and adequate entertainment - magazines, music, overhead TV screens. Upon take off the passengers on the left side of the plane could enjoy the views of the island and the sunset. The window at my seat was crystal clear.

On this 45 mins flight the cabin crew served a cookie and all kinds of napkins (refreshing and dry). They were doing it for about 10 minutes, but surprisingly didn't offer any drink at all. The cabin crew was smiley but didn't show much care, maybe because the flight was too short. We arrived in Athens on time. The touch down was very smooth, though the entire runway at ATH is quite rough.

It was also very convenient to transfer through ATH. I definitely recommend it even for a long lay-over. The halls are spacious and bright. Duty Free shops have nice prices. You won't be bored in the clean zone. The seats in the waiting areas are comfortable and you can enjoy free 1 hour of Wi-Fi in the Terminal or read a 2Board issue - official magazine of the airport.

    Airline: Aegean Airlines
    Flight: 970
    Aircraft: Airbus A320-232
    Registration: SX-DGB
Departure Airport: Athens-Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH), Greece
    Arrival Airport: Moscow-Domodedovo (DME), Russia
    Seat: 8A (Economy)

The flight departed on time. It was a red-eye flight and passengers would like to have a nap, but the crew didn't hurry to serve meals. We waited for about 30 minutes after take off till they showed up with their carts. Catering was very good but not excellent. It was tasty with meat, little salad and baklava. Various drinks were offered. Actual arrival at DME was 10 minutes earlier. Baggage arrived quickly as usual.

    Conclusion
Adequately good punctual airline with decent service. Overall experience is good, would definitely fly again for a reasonable price.
