Well - if I read the announcement correctly, Germanwings and Eurowings will be consolidated under one roof and in the mid-term only the Eurowings brand will survive. Also, Eurowings will start long-haul low-cost operations under a joint venture with Turkish Sun Express (which in itself is a JV between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa), the benefit being that the crews will be employed by Sun Express and therefore not represented by German unions. This low-cost long-haul operation will initially be based in Cologne and operate flights to leisure destinations (Caribbean, Indian Ocean, southern Africa). Lufthansa mainline will continue to operate out of Frankfurt and Munich - both long-haul and European flights.
