    • Not a Grumman, is it?

      • You're right.....it's not a Grumman.

A hybrid developed from two types made by the same manufacturer.

        • This is one true head crusher ! I'm near to bang mine against the comp'.
I first thought about some mixture from Northrop Alpha, Lockheed Orion/Explorer or Vultee V-1 on an experimental hull, but nothing appears as this one .

          • The pilot was left to freeze in an open cockpit. The passengers weren't !

            • OK - next shot in the dark... Consolidated comes to mind...

              • No, not Consolidated. The manufacturer from whose two types this aircraft was developed has already been mentioned here ! Named after a bird which would have been found in this aircraft's specific area of operations.

                • Perhaps single engine .. er .. an early Lake prototype. Just kidding but this is tough.

                  • Purposely built for cold weather operations to keep the passengers comfortable. The passengers sat on either side of the aircraft in separate cabins. The pilot, on the other hand, was in an open cockpit !

                    • Duck who flies up side down has a quack up? Grumman?

The Coast Guard on Guam had a head hunting party for me. After they wounded their old Grumman on the reef it came back with hull gashes. I made up a stencil in the WWII "nose art" genre and it was a duck with a crown and a broken neck with the slogan rocker "KING OF THE REEF".

Silly Coasties have no sense of humor when it came to the Navy

                      • No, not a Grumman. It's a prototype/one-off built from parts of two different models from the same manufacturer....but not built BY the original manufacturer.
