  • If you were strolling across the greensward in Dublin (but you are not), you may recall the current name of this former WWII strip.

One is certainly in Canada but the namesake is ... far away,

    • Right then...the Canadian one is Ernest Harmon AFB, previously Stephenville Air Base. (Mark Harmon plays the character of Gibbs in NCIS). It is now called Stephenville International Airport and is the one that Queen Elizabeth visited in 1959.

The Dublin greensward clue refers I think to St Stephens Green in Dublin.

The other one ? Hmmmmm, more research I think.

      • Correct. Sorry for the "twofer" but with the other popping up it was ... it begged to be included.

        One day, the other night.

The International Date Line is not for getting a prom date. But it's just a memory.

          • And the clouds parted and trumpets sounded.

Sorry for that run around the planet but I started to post the one Harmon figuring it would be a no brainer ... in my old "back yard". Then the other Harmon in Canada popped up.

Lucky they were not close enough for an off course venture since for a short time in 1948 and 1949 there were two Harmon Fields named for different Harmons. One was for E. E. Harmon and on Guam it was Millard Fillmore Harmon.

I used to drag race my motor cycle on the old Harmon on Guam; back then the name was forgotten but in the late 60's it was just "the dragstrip" which is how drag racing as we know it got it's start .. old military fields. Now it is the entrance to K-Mart.

            • OK then....

Queen Elizabeth landed here as well,
I have raced in grass roots motorsport here.
              One runway.

                • Where did most of the top F1 drivers cut their teeth ?

...and talking of motors, you could buy a car here as well as an aeroplane.

                  • RAF Manston becomes Kent and provides service to Brands Hatch? Grass roots refers to the turf racing of the hoofed persuasion?

car and planes .. coven .. hmmmmmmmmmmmm

No, not Silverstone. The race circuit I'm referring to is much, MUCH smaller than that and you really wouldn't know of it unless you had been in this particular branch of motorsport.

                          To simplify the clues....

                          Military history but now civilian.

You can buy a car here onsite.
One runway, not particularly long but long enough for bizjets.

                            • No, not Oxford. By the way, I'm talking about being able to buy a second hand car on site. You might have some competition though when buying.
