  • Cargolux: ORDER comming (?!) for more 747-8Fs

    hi.

in the local news they are reporting that Cargolux is planning to increase its fleet, from currently 13 747-8R7F7SCDs (some are still on order, not delivered to date). this means that they will gett 5 more.

The 777F was also speculated to enter the Cargolux fleet, but after the retirement of Qatar Airways in the group of shareholders, plans were scrapped, in favor of the good old traditional Cargolux.....

also discussed was a mixed fleet of 13 748F and several 744F (the youngest to remain) but that was not an economical option, as it was to operate a two-sub-types-fleet, which they haven't done since several years, the last time was in the end 90s, when they retired their 742F (we do not speak now about the leased-in-fleet....)

for all those who like the 744F: ICV will remain with one 744F.....

great news for Cargolux and for Boeing's 747 program....

(link will follow as soon as available in English)-right now only in German an Luxembourgish

So Cargolux will get rid of the B747-400F??? Even the newer ones, manufactured in 2005/06???

Cargolux wasn't! they just had troubles, like everyone had, they still suffer, but that's why they have now changed.....

Yes, they will get rid of all the 744s, YCV, the youngest 744 might go to Italian subsidiary Cargolux Italia (as they have the oldest 744 (kCV) in the fleet of CV)

I wonder how easily they can put a bunch of 744Fs in the market right now, as I'm sure conversions (or retired 744s for conversions)are cheaper and likely more abundant.

I wonder if this will really be a smart move... I mean, the B747-400F they got are pretty new.

the 744Fs they have are in fact quite new (T, U, V, W, and Y, which is c/n 1408!) but there is quite a number of old 742 and 744BCFs around which could see replacement.....
