  • DC-2 to MD-11

KLM recently ended passenger services with the MD-11, so in fact there are, I think, no passenger tri-jets any longer in service (wide bodied anyway) after 42 years. That's kind of pretty amazing and sad.

Also, I think it's amazing that KLM is the only carrier to have operated every single Douglas airliner from the DC-2 to the MD-11, including the DC-5. Some real aviation history here at risk of being missed.

Itīs really amazing. Sadly, KLM never operated the MD-80 to augment/replace their DC-9s but opted to this type with a comination of two types: The Boeing 737 and Fokker 100!

It was always a treat to walk around the aircraft at work. I've even got to see inside a few times. Definitely my favorite aircraft to peruse.

Now we seem to be well on the way to the last passenger Boeing 747 flights. Well, the last of the 747-400's. But even though we have a brand new 747, barely any carriers are due to operate it and thanks to the new range of 777's, I doubt any new operators of the 8's are likely to come up.
