  • Size: does it matter?

    Hi guys,

I found some old pictures taken with a small camera.
It saved pics in 3:2 format (or is it 4:3?).

    Can I upload 1200 x 900?

    Cheers,

    Hinkelbein

That really depends on the quality. Often older photos, taken with older camera's, are of lesser quality that photos taken with todays camera's.

I was actually referring to the aspect ratio:

4:3 or 3:2, are both allowed?

        Sure, see the upload guidelines

        1.2 Image Formats

Photos should be uploaded between 4:3 or 3:2 format. Those formats are typically used by almost all digital cameras, so that any changes to the format can only be achieved by deliberately cropping the photo differently. A photo outside these size ratios will be rejected using the rejection reason "Cropping / Photo edges".

To make it easier for you here are the typical sizes for both ratios.

        4:3
        3:2
        800 x 600
        1024 x 76
        1280 x 960
        1600 x 1200
        800 x 533
        1024 x 681
        1200 x 800
        1600 x 1067

Example: a photo of 1024 px should be between 681 and 768 pixels high.

A guide on cropping photos in Photoshop can be found here.

1200 x 900 is 4:3 aspect ratio and is permitted here. In the absence of large image permission you are allowed to upload to a 1200 pixel maximum size between 3:2 and 4:3 aspect ratio which means anywhere between 800 pixels and 900 pixels for the short edge.

The image formats box on the guidelines pages is misleading and I have changed it to read...

          4:3...............3:2

          800 x 600........800 x 533
          1024 x 768......1024 x 681
          1200 x 900......1200 x 800
          1600 x 1200.....1600 x 1067

            Thanks, Brian, for your effort.
            It's much appreciated.

I accidentally stumbled on a folder on my external hard drive containing older pics I took at AMS with a compact camera. Some pics are usable.

I even found a KLM 767 on it, I never knew KLM had 767s.
There's also two or three Northwest Airlines DC-10's but unfortunately objects are in front of them.

            Cheers,

            Hinkelbein.
