I'm not sure why, but the fence-spotters at Pricess Juliana immediatelly came to mind. Imagine the scene!

Looks to me a hung start together with the resulting tail pipe fire.
Nice vid.

I guess you could call it that, alot of raw fuel left in the tail pipe after the run, we had a couple of runs that looked like this, as were we changing differnet compoments to try and sovle the issue, it ended up being the MEC, which stands for main engine control, its bassicaly the fcu or fuel control unit which most other engines have it named. to much fuel and not enough air.. glad you guys got a kick out of it

Hmm when we have troubles like this we perform first a dry run to get rid of the fuel in the tail pipe. But that is with PW4000's on a MD-11....

yup dry spools were done between runs, the CF6 does take a good 30-40secs till N1 is up to speed to put fuel on, so any sitting fuel would be blown out.

Na, Glückwunsch.

So, this pictures are left to my fantasy... But how many speed can you gain with afterburner in a DC10 loaded with MTOW?
+10%?

Or does afterburner transform a DC10 into a rocket? And how does the range suffer from this effect?

Am i too much restrained by fuel calculations? Well, my fav a/c has never been a 747 with afterburner. I've never felt slow in a 744, so, is this too much reality?
I don't think so. SST has died in the year 2003.

But since, we haven't really been slow.
