  • Western Airlines coming back??

A new Western Airlines seems to be in the process of formation...

The web site further states that service is to start in Jan 2007, even have flight schedule in it:

    Next:
    None Planned

Don't expect too much, they won't even have their own planes, and looking at the markets they plan to serve, I have my doubts they'll last long. Bellingham doesn't really sound like a market to base planes in.

Anyone know what they are flying? CRJ? Beech 1900D? Super Cub?
O'Hare - The Aviation God's greatest creation, or their greatest mistake? you be the judge!

It's public scheduled charter service (Similar to Hooters Air, Transmeridian, Southeast, etc.) and the flights will be operated by Xtra Airways (The former Casino Express) using 737-400s.

Considering the history of these type of operations in the US, if they're still around in a year, I'd be shocked.

These type of opperations hardly ever surrvive, and I doubt that a single 734 will even be painted in Western colors.

Someone I know (Western Airlines buff) booked a bunch of flights on this new airline simply because they are named "Western." I too will be very surprised if they survive very long.

              They already have two painted.

Really? I was expecting no more than a logo or two slapped onto a make-shift hybrid scheme. Is it similar to the classic Western scheme?

I wish them the best, but I doubt they'll surrvive.

                  Re:

lol, is this for real? What a waste of money, having seen all other similar ops go down I wonder why they're starting this airline in the first place.

On another note, did the original Western go bankrupt or was it bought by some airline?

Sometimes, I think just for the same reasons that Air Commerz was founded in Germany in the early 70's: Only for tax write-offs.

Western's last CEO in 1987 nowadays is the CEO for the carrier that took over Western and inherited its SLC and LAX hubs. The man is Gerry Grinstein. I'll let you figure out the carrier that took over Western .

                      Re:

^That's interesting, so DL took over Western, Eastern (ATL hub) and then Pan Am (III?).

At least, this fuels some revenues for Delta which probably sold the name.

I think everyone is forgetting one thing. Delta owns the rights to the Western name, this site is total bull.

Are you sure they wern't purchased from Delta, or that they won't be in the near future? Many airlines have done this before, such as Carnival and BMA with Pan Am, the National Airlines of the 90s, Midway Airlines, and Southeast Airlines of the 90s which was a DC-9 opperater who bought rights to the origional National's "Sun King" logo.
