A brand new airbus A330 [...]
answers will come fast this time
Yes, I agree.
The airline is also quite brand new, not yet ten years old. And there were motley nationalities on board.
Apparently the pilot missed the runway. I did not find confirmed the "immediately above the runway"-assumption.
The German long haul is alive, 65 years and still kicking.
The Gold Member in the 747 club, 50 years since the first LH 747.
And constantly advanced, 744 and 748 /w upper and lower EICAS.
This is Lohausen International airport speaking, echo delta delta lima.
I don't like to speculate things, but the tail is almost complete and away from the crash site...."a la" American Airlines in Queens, NY and the Air France near the brazilian coast....

Word has it that they were on the RWY 09 approach, which is a non-precision NDB approach directly into the sunrise at that time. The METAR reports haze, (which may possibly be due to sandstorm activity). Under the circumstances they could have been in IMC conditions on final without glideslope guidance. I wonder if they were below MDA? Rumors of a go-around attempt and possibly a high-bank angle CFIT. The wreckage seems to indicate cartwheeling.
Another horrible tragedy of one of the world's safest aircraft.
There are roumours about another possible survivor. According to an Italian newspaper a journalist of Arab TV AL-Jazeera has reported that some rescuers affirmed they have found a second person who has survived the crash. This person is the co-pilot. The journalist is still waiting for the confirm by the rescuers so this news is not sure. Anyway it can be a very important thing for the investigators. Let's hope this is true for this man, and for all those who have lost their lives and their loveones who deserve an answer.
I would assume that according to international regulations, the Lybians, acting as the state of registration of the aircraft and the state where the accident took place will lead the investigation.
French BEA shall participate in the investigation as the investigation body of the state delivering airworthiness certificate for the aircraft. Engines being reported as GE CF6-80 E1A4, U.S. NTSB shall be invited as well.
Regards

Reason: Engine model
There may have been problems with the reliability of the VOR on RWY 09.

Unfortunately, the second person that they rescued died in hospital according to our local radio in Tunisia, a responsible of the lybian aviation authorities confirmed...
