A Shorts 360-100 crashed into the water off Sint Maarten-Juliana Airport (SXM), shortly after takeoff from runway 27.
According to a person involved in the search and rescue operation, the airplane was on initial climb out about 30 seconds after takeoff and at an altitude of about 500ft when the Sint Maarten controller gave instruction to change heading to 230 degrees for traffic. Shortly after that the airplane impacted the water.
During the search process debris was found at size of about 2ft x 2ft being the largest floating pieces. One of the crew members died, the other is still missing.
