  • PIA lease 737-800s

Four wingletted 738s have been leased by PK on a temporary basis till 2014, two each from Corendon of Turkey which arrived in Karachi, and Travel Service of Czech Rep. which are due next month. the aircraft will not be painted in PIA colours though.

They will substitute A310 on some domestic and regional routes as well as the 737-300 only two of which remain. Ten A320s will be dry leased starting next year to replace the 737s.

Do you happen to know who the A320s are being leased from?

Not yet, they are going for a mix of four A320 ex-Air Arabia, Air Arabia Maroc, China Eastern and six A319 ex-US Airways, Air India, Air Malta, Philippine Airlines, the 738s are now flying domestic routes in Corendon livery.

Two 320 are due this month possibly in new livery, eight more may come in July from Tigerair and Mandala.

Gulf Air are interested in taking 26% stake in the airline.

That's great news for the PIA, and I hope that this time the Pakistani Government does not get involved, and via corruption, ends the deal. The airline could use with a little cash infusion, and a partner.

WOW! Haha, the IMF put its foot down! Well done. Is is that Gulf Air is hoping to take a 26% stake in the whole airline, or is it that Gulf Air will be buying out parts of the airline (such as the catering department, or ground services et al)? Any proposed changes to PIA operations due to the Gulf Air purchase? Maybe we will see more of PIA at BAH? Right now the only route operated by PIA is Lahore-Bahrain, where as Gulf Air serves every other major Pakistani city.

Ummmm. WHAT? WHAT! Are you kidding me? If that's the case that's a massive blow to the current PIA staff, and kinda validates statements (most from you) that they were massively incompetent from the beginning. Damn it, I also have another issue. If, this is going to happen now - why is the airline even re-branding when a new management might (and likely should) over-ride it in a few months?

Yes an exercise in futility, but also a good opportunity to line their pockets with the budget allotted for the job.

PIA have shelved new livery plan if there was any but continue to use the new banner/logo look, A320 arrived wearing current scheme but a tacky Crecsent and star added to engine, please note unpainted wingbox. But business class is back on single aisle jet fleet.

The 733 fleet of two has been grounded and the leased 738 and temp. A320 returned to Travel Service.
