Well they already have flights to KUL. CMB-BKK-ICN would be shorter I guess so they will probably stick with that. Will they have fifith freedom for ICN-BKK sector?

Are MH still joining One World? The proposed "Commercial Alliance" with Qantas has already fallen through.
This wouldn't necessarily stop them joining One World except that Qantas was to be their Sponsor and Asian Carriers carry a lot of Australians to Asia and beyond. If QF are not getting a slice of this Pie through some sort of revenue sharing agreement I cannot believe they would agree to the OW entry of another Asian Carrier such as MH, which has such a strong presence in Australia. The relationship between QF and CX is reportedly testy at best.

Indeed. But just maybe they have decided the propsects of getting a reliable Indian Member anytime soon are so bleak that the best they can do is to grab someone on the Periphery. Sri Lanka is about as close to India as you can get and Sri Lankan Airlines seems to be Managed a bit less chaotically than most of their Indian neighbours.
