Default Rejected Photo(s)

Gents, i was wondering if you anyone could recommended or explain perhaps why the following shots were rejected, and offer any advice on how to avoid.

It was a perfect sunny day which is rare here in this country, so to have some rejections is surprising. Identical camera settings for both.

1st one up Aer Lingus A330:
Camera: Nikon D7000
Lens: Sigma 70-200mm F2.8
Settings: Aperture Priority, F8, Exposure Bias -0.3 step.

2nd one Norwegian

Camera: Nikon D7000
Lens: Sigma 70-200mm F2.8
Settings: Aperture Priority, F8, Exposure Bias -0.3 step.

Thanks,
Gary.

Both are overexposed Gary. The camera settings that you quote are of little relevance really when looking at the image after processing.

The Aer Lingus needs some histogram adjustment. Try moving the dark tone baseline arrow to the right to a value 24 and the midtone arrow to a value of 0.90

The same applies to the Norwegian which needs dark tone value of 23 and midtone value of 0.83

These will give you a reference point to go for because you will need to re-process from scratch.

I see that you use a D7000 camera as do I. How have you set your metering ? .....because I normally have to overexpose by about +.33 EV. Mine is set to centre weighted.

Thanks for the reply Brian, actually the exposure wasn't mentioned in the rejection reason, it was contrast only.(no midtones or shadows)

For metering I have it set to default, which is matrix I believe on the D7000. Which btw compared to my old D80 is fantastically sharp.

Exactly why I upgraded from a D80....amongst other things. The D7000 is a cracker of a camera for the money.

If it is because the image you show has been rejected here then it was probably because it is dark/underexposed and too low in the frame.
