Just wondering why Actual Flights Paths differ so much from (theoretical) Direct Flights Paths and if anyone has some examples of the biggest deviations? I am sure there are many reasons but some of the most common ones would be interesting.
eg QF129 from SYD to PVG today veered further west than Jieyang before turning NE and heading up the Chinese Coast. Why didn't they set a course East of Taiwan and save themselves time and fuel?
