  • Emirates have possibly quit an Indian route

It seems Kozhikode, formerly known as Calicut my not be resumed by EK, the route was suspended last May due to repair work on the runway which was due for completion in October but got postponed till this May and further postponed indefinitely according to some, wide body aircraft were banned from flying there, Saudia, Emirates and Air India being the only operators of the type on the route. SV and AI now cater to the traffic bound for CCJ through other cities, EK however opted to suspend it, reportedly their office vacated and airport signs removed as well.

EK Cargo A310 freighters also used to serve CCJ some years back.

The title suggests that they stopped on their own accord, but the post in fact states that Emirates topped serving Kozhikode because of circum stances beyond their control.

Hm. Does anyone want to correct the en.wiki entry? Peter?

        Calicut, via en.wiki, with mistakes.

Ok. Probably this is too much for European aviation enthusiasts. Not a single European airline at that airport?

Don't we have jp members in Dubai?

PS: I know what the discussion could be like. Rostov na Donu provides... 2500 metres, Mangalore provides 2450 metres, but
Calicut provides almost 2900 metres, and no ISA conditions there.

What does an average Boeing need for intercontinental air traffic? Well, here at my home airport we have a little bit more than a quarter mile.
For a standing start here you can use exactly 3 kilometres, with your B773ER, your B763ER or your B738.

Is this the reason why there are no Europeans at Calicut (4,200 nmi away from here)?

"Emirates has to quit Indian route due to runway restricitions at Kozhikhode" would still be a wayyyyyy better titel

That would imply its a mere suspension and they will return when runway is done, which is not happening now even when its repaired.

According to whom? At this moment, nobody knows when the runway is repaired. As soon as it is, Emirates could resume operations with their all widebody fleet. In the meantime, the suspended it and even removed signage at the airport and returned leased office space, since there is no date set and this is India. Why pay rent and advertise a currently non-existing product at the airport?
By the way, "SUSPEND" is the word YOU used TWICE in your opening post in connection with Emirates and Kozhikhode.

Why is it bothering you whatever manner I have composed the post in? topic clearly says possibly have quit, meaning it still has suspended status but may have gone with the office and all cleared out and might not resume, and could even go to Flydubai pending Indian govt. approval.
