  • Heathrow bird strike.

    Egyptair B737 SU-GDZ hit a bird while on short finals into London Heathrow. Witnesses said that the last thing to go through the birds' mind was its asshole !!

    I can be wrong, but I suspect that it was not on short finals. Somehow this looks like a 200+ impact, not a 140- one.
    If that was a 140kts impact, imagine one at 250 kts (typical climb speed while still at low altitude, after flaps retraction).
    250 kts is more than 3 times the energy than 140. The bird would end in 18B.

      Good point but consider that the mass of birds varies widely. A goose can easily weigh 10 pounds, whereas a sparrow typically weighs 1/100 that amount.
      Be alert! America needs more lerts.
