On a different note, Singapore Airlines has an open position for an airplane mechanic. Any one is interested?

I heard a rumor that one mechanic had put the lock pin into the gear and then, while he was in the cockpit cycling the gear to check on some issue, another ground personel saw the pin and removed it. Might be your classic Abbot & Costello scenario.
