Are there still any Lockheed L-1011 TriStars flying these days, other than the military ones for the RAF?
I swear on a stack of bibles that I saw one on approach in to Dubai, United Arab Emirates the other day, but I was driving on a crowded highway and could only take fleeting glances at it while driving as my wife was yelling at me to keep my eyes on the road.
I also think NASA flys an L-1011 in the U.S. (I think it's NASA isn't it???) But I can't imagine what the NASA L-1011 would be doing in Dubai?
I'm pretty sure it was an L-1011! I think I can tell the difference between a DC-10 / MD-11 and an L-1011 due mainly to the different design in the engine / intake designs in the tail.
Any TriStar experts here? I'm pretty sure what I saw was an L-1011! Trouble is I thought the only ones left flying were with the RAF and possibly NASA. But this one was not a dull military gray color, it had a lot of white on it.
Thanks for any help.
