  • American Airlines inspecting jets for loose seats

DALLAS (AP) — American Airlines says it will inspect eight planes after loose seats were found on two different planes in the last three days.

American Airlines spokeswoman Andrea Huguely said Monday that there could be a problem with the way certain seats fit into tracking on the floor of the Boeing 757 planes.

Huguely says the airline has notified the Federal Aviation Administration.

On Saturday a flight from Boston to Miami made an emergency landing in New York after three seats on the Boeing 757 came loose shortly after takeoff.

Huguely said a second plane was discovered to have loose seats on Monday but details weren't immediately available.

Personally I think this is just market research... they're trying to see if they can get away with charging pax extra for seats that are bolted to the floor.

Edit: actually this is a win-win for the airline. If they find pax won't tolerate being charged extra for bolted-down seats, they can start charging extra for the ones that aren't bolted down, calling it "extra legroom".
Be alert! America needs more lerts.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we will shortly be making an emergency landing; please assume the brace position by grabbing the back of the seat in front of you ... and just keep it where it is, for as long as you can."

I'm interested in how the seats came loose; did they separate from the floor or just slide a few inches in their hold down channels?
