I've heard that United and Continental, if merged, would make the world's biggest airline. But this report from ATW Online shows that United and Continental's passenger figures, combined, would fall short of Delta. So is the basis for projecting it as the largest something other than passengers?
fleet size, # of routes, # of employees and # of flights per day. When they say biggest airline passengers doesn't matter because it is always changing on a quarterly period
Most sources usually use RPMs (Revenue Passenger Miles) as the measurement for airline size rather than passengers carried, and in that area CO/UA is bigger than DL/NW.
