    There used to be aerospace manufacturing at both ends of one runway.

    It doesn't really fit but worth a mention is Plant 42, Palmdale, S California. Home of the legendary Skunk Works.

    Sure - there are some glider operations from here, but not nearly as many as from another field about 3 miles away...
