WOW thank god it went okay. What a great job by the pilots to bring this bird down so safe!!!
|
Indeed.
Apparently, there were no injuries. The firefighters foamed the runway before the landing. |
Do we know which bird it was it looks like is's a SP-LPA and if it is then it's a second one with this bird, the first one was in 1993
|
It seems that the aircraft involved is SP-LPC.

that is an incredible group of videos, glad to see the landing went well, always helps when the runway is coated in foam to soften the blow for the aircraft.

Great photo:

http://www.jetphotos.net/showphotos....226663,7226664 That landing must rank close up to the level of expertise similar to "Sully" landing on the Hudson. |
Amazing how the aircraft was kept nice and straight down the runway with really no directional control. Good job Captain.

Gotta love the USA Today headline though...
"Plane originating in Newark crash lands in Warsaw"

Captain Tadeusz Wrona and First Officer Jerzy Szwarc, ladies and gentlemen...
Aviation Herald reporting that they lost the center hydraulic system 30 mins. out of Newark. Is it SOP to continue ETOPS with one system INOP? (I just like saying that.) |
I understand aircraft are designed to allow for a wheels up landing. I designed a secondary system that had to be revised because I had routed electrical wiring through wheel wells.
Do pilots train for wheels up landing in the simulator? There seems to be several such landings a year. |

I wonder if she will fly again... |

When I saw the BBC video, All i could say is amazing. That was the smoothest landing I have seen in such a terrifying circumstance. Great job by the pilots.

G'day Evan,
Centre Hyd System is a very interesting one when it comes to ETOPS. There is no definitive statement as to if it constitues an ETOPS failure or not.. It is somewhat dependant on circumstances. I do wonder why the alternate gear extension hasn't worked at all - that will be very interesting to see. And SAMR - coating the runway is not necessarily encouraged these days. The benefits are considered negligible compared to the time required to refill the tankers afterwards. Thereis no doubt that this crew has done an excellent job pulling off a smooth landing without the gear. |

How does it go? "While there is no question that the pilots are highly skilled, the procedures are straight forward and something that any decent pilot should be able to do without significant issues"... ...except for the interpretation of nose-high attitudes and stall warnings... |
