Philippine Airlines retires the B747-400 from revenue service

Philippine Airlines (PR, Manila) has completed the retirement of its B747-400 fleet with the aircraft's last revenue flight from San Francisco to Manila on Saturday, August 30. Of the two remaining operational airframes, RP-C7473 (msn 2782 was ferried from Clark to Marana via San Francisco, CA on August 28. The Filipino national carrier has replaced its B747-400s with its A340-300s and B777-300(ER)s.

In other Philippine Airlines related news, the carrier will make its return to the US East Coast in March next year with a 4x weekly Manila to New York JFK via Vancouver Int'l service. The route will operate on-board an A340-300.

I got to clear the last revenue flight out of the gate and off to taxi, as well as several of the 747 retirement ferries from CRK-SFO-MZJ/GWO. I told the pilots I would miss the 747 and they replied "We'll miss her too, we'll miss flying her".

maybe some routes flown by the 744 will be taken over by the 343.

SFO-MNL was the final 747 long-haul route for the last month or two at least, and that went all 77W, as did LAX.
