As of 12:40 central time today, American Airlines Stock (AMR) was trading at $17.00 per share - a 16.8% increase on the day - while Southwest Airlines (LUV) is $15.60 for a 3.3% increase.
American lost $111 MILLION last quarter while Southwest made $66 Million. I just don't get it.

Stocks have their own rules, I never understood them myself. Delta's share are currently trading over a dollar higher than yesterday, even though its main competitor at ATL, Air Tran, reported ood financial results, which is a bad thing for DL, but for some reason their shares go up. It was the same when DL reported their 3Q03 results: they lost a s*** load of money, but what did the stock do? gained over a dollar. NYSE- You just can't figure it out :skeptic: .

Several investment banks upgraded the outlook of AMR, resulting in sharp rise of the stock today, which also raise the stock price of AMR's competitors. NWAC, AWA and DAL, etc. all rose significantly.

Westjet stock:

Thursday: stock goes up $1.77.
Friday: stock goes up $1.66.
Monday: stock drops $.60
Tuesday: stock goes up $.40
Wednesday: announce Q4 & 2003 profit, stock drops $1.00

The stock market has a herd mentality, if a lot of people sell - the herd follows. If a lot of people buy, the herd follows. I just don't get it..

I too am disappointed that WN hasn't gone up more.

Hang in there. I'd buy now if I had the money, since it probably can't go much lower.
