I came across these pictures on a.net:

http://www.airliners.net/open.file/486598/M/

I' ve never seen these underfloor facilities (though I've seen the way to underfloor crew rest area) and looks really nice! I was wondering if this is something new on the airbuses? Has anyone seen them in person on a flight?

Thanks

Edit: Added a second pic.

Pretty nice. I wonder how much cargo capacity is lost for these restrooms.

Also is this feature standard on A346s..?

...or is this something the airline asked for?

The A340NG cabin looks really nice.

Position 31P is already lost to cargo for the crew rest module.

I think it's just an option, because LH are the first airline using under-floor lavatories. When I flew on IB EC-IOB there were no downstairs. But does anyone know why there are only "holes" where the PTV's should be? When will they be installed?

I've seen the new LH 346 cabin on German TV some time ago (Welt der Wunder), and I find it awesome. Of course this means less cargo, but it also means more seats. Though what I wonder is is LH the first ailine to ever put lavs in the cargo compartment. I mean we've all seen galleys or even entrances (PSA L1011s) iin th cargo hold, but never lavs.

LH is my favourite airline, but I'm getting frustrated. When will they install PTVs??? I thought that the 346's would have them for sure...very dissapointing.

The entrances thru cargo hold are also standard on the IL.86.
:) I am not surprised to see trend-setting LH doing this.
it allows more seats without squeezing everybody'vital space.
they rely more and more on dedicated services provided by the cargo profit center, which itself is busy tunning up by replacing the last 74Fs with more MD11Fs.

I was on an Airtours A330 that diverted into YYT about two years ago that also had "downstairs" lavatories. It was the first time I'd ever seen it.

Hi. On airliners.net they had a very similar topic regarding the lavatories under the floor. It has the pictures in the topic so you can all see. Here is the link:

Like the other forum member who posted above, I've travelled with Airtours International (AIH) from London Gatwick to Montego Bay and saw lavatories beneath the cabin.

I never went to the toilet for the 10 hour flight (!!) but saw a map inside one of the safety cards. I think there are four toilets and a seating area with seatbelts in case it gets turbulent.
