Hi,
my one hundreth post will be dedicated to my favourite airline - jmc AIR.

jmc AIR came into operations on the 27th of March 2000 founded by John Mason Cook in which the companies intials where formed. It will vanish on the 1st of April this year, just 3 years and five days after it set out to "deliver quality customer service to all their passengers" and will be replaced by Thomas Cook Airlines who will folow a similar concept.

jmc came about with the merger of Flying Colours Airlines and Caledonian Airways. The airlines two fleets were combined and the first aircraft to appear in the new lime green and matalic blue livery was one of four new Boeing 757-200's delivered in November 1999.

Originally with a fleet of 10 A320's, 15 757-200's and 2 DC-10-30 aircraft jmc AIR boasted to have "one of the most modern technologically advanced fleets in UK Leisure Aviation". During jmc's first year of operations they aquired two new Boeing 757-300's and became the first airline in the UK to operate the aircraft. 2001 saw the DC-10-30 retired and replaced by two new Airbus A330-200's on non-stop operations to Florida, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Annually jmc transports approximaitly 6.3 million people and has a 2600 strong workforce. There main bases are at Manchester and London Gatwick from where it operates daily flight to the Mediterranean, Canary Islands and further afield.

Last year jmc where officially voted the best UK Lesuire airline for on time proformance and have therfore fulfilled one of there main goals.

On April the 1st this year the jmc brand will unfortunatly be no more as this is the date of the full amlagimation to Thomas Cook Airlines. Currently almoust half of jmc's fleet has been repainted into the new livery and should be complete by the last day of jmc opertaions. On this day all jmc related items will be thrown away, donated or just replaced by the new so called fresher Thomas Cook brand.

This day will be a sad one for many jmc fans on this forum and around the world

Great post but wasn't JMC formed by Thomas Cook and named for his son who'se initials were JMC? You would know better than me but that's what I thought.

They had an interesting livery.....
It's a shame to see it go.

That's what I always believed. I found it rather strange not to name the airline after Thomas Cook himself rather than the initials of his son, given that both have been dead for so long.

Belatedly, that is what the company is now doing. Seems a very expensive marketing mistake as many 'ordinary' people advocated it should be called Thomas Cook Air or similar back in 2000. Still, I suppose the highly-paid executives know best, even though they do get it hopelessly wrong.

Cool post and livery! Thank you.

Thomas Cook has a pretty good livery as well, but it doesn't beat JMC Air. Too bad I never got to see it in person.

Well, your 100th post and my first!! Hence my name, I am a fan of jmc, I was booked on a Flying Colours flight once, then it all went a bit.... well green!
It seems only weeks since that TV ad with the 737 wrapped in parcel paper!!! (they actually DID wrap a 737 in paper, it wasn't computers!!).

I'll miss the green livery, and the airline. :( . I quite like the TCX branding, but I prefer jmc. I'm pleased they won the on-time award from AUC. they did very well, go out with a bang! Oh well all good things have to end. Nice tribute TCX!

Hi jmc757,
I used to be jmc_757-200 (as u've probably guesed) but I decieded to keep up with the times and change my username, avatar and signiture. I do prefer jmc AIR to Thomas Cook Airlines but since they are replacing jmc I will learn to live with them. As you have done I have also flown with Flying Colours Airlines on an Airbus A320-200 from Manchester to Zakynthos and found them to be excelant.

Thanks

Hi I flew Flying Colours twice (MAN-Gran Canaria and LGW - Lanzarote) on the A320 and 757. I have also flown on a JMC A320 (STN-FAO!). Both airlines were great, it was a big shock to me to see Flying Colours go in the beginning after such a short life, then JMC as well its really sad. So many good names in the UK leisure industry have been lost. I also remember the JMC wrapped up 737, there was a whole page on the JMC site saying how they managed to wrap every single piece! Someone had patience!

Well Thomas Cook are in full operations now, looking pretty cool I must say. I hear they are very successful and keeping up JMC and FCL's high service standards! Great uniform by the way TCX!!

Keep it up! :D

PS does any one know if TCX is intending to fly from Southampton (my local airport) in the coming years? First Choice Airways are starting a weekly service to Faro next summer.... :D
