MCI-ATL
So i overslept work at the airport(6-10am), oops, but still managed to make it to MCI in time for my 10:30 flight to ATL. I got to the Kansas City Airport at about 9:30 to check in for non-rev standby for the pretty much flight to ATL. Waited until about 10 minutes before departure, and finally got my boarding pass for seat 7A (yes, first class for free, cant be beat) 7B was open too, so i had two nice soft first class seats to myself. We pushed back from the gate on time and were in the air in no time as there was no line for departure from MCI. Once airborne we were served SNACK MIX!!!!! and a soda, not the full can, but 95% ice and a splash of Dr. Pepper. On the YX MCI-ATL flight departing around the same time, the PAX were getting pancakes and free booze!! Well, aside from that it was a good flight, DL's planes to me are the nicest in the industry. Touched down in ATL on time.

I got to the gate, and much to my disappointment, saw myself as #17 on the standby list. I checked in and was told there was absolutely no way for F/C today, but they would try to get me on. About 20 minutes later i had my boarding pass and was seated comfortably in 43A, once again with the seat next to me open. Average service, nothing outstanding, just the snack mix and a soda on the short 1:20 flight to FLL. We made the trademark approach into FLL which is my absolute favorite approach in the world, coasting feet above the rush hour traffic on I-95 in a 767 is the COOLEST!!!!!!!!!! Landed about 5 mins late, and i was on my way to 5 days in paradise.

This is when my nightmare started. First, my Non-rev passes were checked on to the flight with my family that i WOULD NOT be on. A 767 overbooked by 30 pax!!! So i was stuck in FLL without my passes. I ended up having to spend $400 to get back to MCI the next day in time for work at YX. So my family went home w/o me, which meant another night w/ my grandma in FLL, as this was the last flight of the night that could get me to a connecting MCI flight. This also meant that i would be up at 3am the next day to catch the first flight to ATL.

What a better way to start a Sunday than a Taxi ride back to FLL at 3am (when everyone is just leaving the clubs). Well, myself and the other 300 people they thought they were going to cram on the 757 made their way to the airport. Thank god i got on board, because i would have been fired if i called in again, but the gate agent was literally bribing me to fly out of PBI so they could make more room on this full flight at 5am!!!!!!!!! Who the hell flies at 5am on a sunday??? Well whatever, i sat down in my miserable aisle seat and tried to relax on the miserable flight up to ATL, which seemed to take 5 hours. We took off with no delay, and were actually on approach to ATL when the sun finally decided to rise. Landed, and i made my way to my connecting flight.

After giving up on waiting at cinnabon to get some sort of breakfast (waiting for seriously 30 minutes) i decided i needed to catch my return flight with an empty stomach. This flight was ridiculous. The gate agent was positive that Kansas City was in Kansas, ummm, no, and kept telling us that we were going to Kansas. Okay. So myself and the 17 other people going to MCI on this beautiful sunday morning. Slept all the way through, and landed at MCI on time at 9:20am. I love flying the 757, the power on take off is so awesome. This was also one of the newer 757s so it had the awesome new seats with the leather head rests, nice, and i got the chance to totally appreciate them b/c i slept from takeoff to approach in MCI. No bags to claim b/c they were already with my parents, who also had my BACKUP passes on CO and my original passes on DL.
So, in closing, this was my first real Non-rev adventure and i felt like a total dumbass, but i had a great time flying on DL minus the FLL-ATL flight. This is my first Flight Review post, so let me know what you think.
