Reports say Haneda and Narita are open partially with diversions all over the country. Video shows northern airport getting consumed by tsumami. Condolences to all those lost and affected.
That Airport is Sendai which sits right next to the sea as seen here http://www.airliners.net/photo/Air-Nippon--/Boeing-737-5Y0/1161315/L/&sid=8fe6cd9a263edbe62e78bd604d5dc38f some photos in here including the first one showing the water as it heads towards the canal seperating the tarmac on the right http://www.nytimes.com/

Any word of commercial jets caught on the ground there? I see that Continental flies 737's to SDJ.
Nice video taken on a normal day at Sendai http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQllMAr_GTE&feature=related

This is horrible. I feel so badly for the people of Japan today. Just awful!
I have been looking around for updated info on this airport and the only thing that I can really find is that there is no sign of any aircraft AT ALL. Surely there had to be some on the ground. I guess if there were we can only pray that if there were pax and crew that they all got out and into the terminal, otherwise we may hear of them being found out in the countryside somewhere.
It was heartbreaking to watch the video of the wave coming in. You can see all of the cars on the highway trying to get out of the way, to no avail. I keep picturing mothers and fathers with their children in those vehicles. It is too painful to even think about. I just wish there was something I could do to help, but we are really helpless in this kind of situation as it is occuring. I do encourage those that are able to provide some kind of donation to the Japanese people if possible.
