View Full Version : French people confuse me

Greg

France opposes war and it is confusing until you realize the french don't believe in government capitulations. They had 3 revolutions in 50 years once and they still came out of it with a king. They think monarchies(or dictatorships are the way things should be.

France is lead by a chosen president, right? At least it was the last time I checked. Maybe I don't understand you correctly.

As far as monarchies go, a few countries that do not oppose war, such as the UK and the Netherlands are in fact monarchies...So when you link "monarchy" to "opposing war"............I just don't understand your post I guess. It's getting late :D

The only reason I put this post is because nobody in the forums ever talks. I could care less what anyone does. If I was President I would legalize marijuana and lift all trade embargos. But I don't care enought to run. That is my attitude.

I did not ban an entire country from the chat. To my knowledge, three users from Australia have been banned due to improper conduct. We have users visit from all over the world, including Australians, most of whom behave themselves and contribute to a positive chat environment. Unfortunately not all do.

I like France. I think most French people are good people. I like French food. I think French women are extremely sexy, sultry and I much prefer them to American girls (sorry, but they take better care of themselves!). I like French wine. I like French cigarettes. I think Paris is a beautiful city and CDG is a cool airport for spotting.

What astounds me is France’s attitude. I have no problem with the fact that they are against war. War truly is a terrible thing and should be avoided at all costs. Hell, I’m not entirely convinced of the need to go to war when our economy is in the toilet and we still have al-Qaeda terrorists to go after. I just don’t think the French (especially Chirac) are being honest about their reasons for not going to war. They say that war is terrible and is the morally wrong thing to do, but what are they doing in the Ivory Coast? And what about their nuclear weapons testing on the French Polynesians Islands? Those aren’t peaceful moves. Regardless of whether they are justified or not, chiding someone else when they are guilty of the same thing only makes them look like hypocrites.

I believe the French just don’t want to lose their interests in Iraq and lose the cozy relationship they have with Hussein. I also think they’re afraid of the reactions of their six or so million Muslim inhabitants in their country. Those are fine and are good reasons for not wanting a war, but at least be up front about it! Russia and China don’t want war because they don’t want to lose their interests with the present regime in Iraq, but at least they say so. I haven’t heard of any visceral reaction in this country towards China and Russia.

Maybe the French could learn a lesson in honesty from them…

Iceman makes a good point. Ah it's all political. Leaders never seem to want to manifest their true agenda, they would rather disguise it behind some rhetoric. I guess it spares them the scrutiny......

Many involved in this issue all have secret agendas:

France-drills for oil in iraq. gets oil for very cheap. other trading done.

Germany-drilling for oil in iraq. gets oil for very cheap. other trading done.

Russia-they sell arms to Iraq. Russia isn't a wealthy country, selling arms to the Iraqis helps to alleviate this. Russia also get a lot of it's oil (cheap oil) from Iraq.

China-also receives oil from iraq for cheap. also trades with iraq

America-wants a new friendly government who help project american influence in the region and help protect US interests.

No don't get me wrong. These are not the one and only reasons for the decisions of these countries, but these are some of the more discreet reasons.

Of course America, should be:

America-wants to drill for oil in Iraq, gets oil very cheap, other trading done.

Any questions??

While speaking to the Hoover Institution today, Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was asked this question:

There was a Frenchman, an Englishman and Claudia Schiffer sitting together in a carriage in a train going through Provence. Suddenly the train went through a tunnel and as it was an old style train, there were no lights in the carriages and it went completely dark. Then there was a kissing noise and the sound of a really loud slap. When the train came out of the tunnel, Claudia Schiffer and the Englishman were sitting as if nothing had happened and the Frenchman had his hand against his face as if he had been slapped there. The Frenchman was thinking: 'The English fella must have kissed Claudia Schiffer and she missed him and slapped me instead.' Claudia Schiffer was thinking: 'The French fella must have tried to kiss me and actually kissed the Englishman and got slapped for it.' And the Englishman was thinking: 'This is great. The next time the train goes through a tunnel I'll make another kissing noise and slap that French bastard again.'

"The French are a smallish, monkey-looking bunch and not dressed any better, on average, than the citizens of Baltimore. True, you can sit outside in Paris and drink little cups of coffee, but why this is more stylish than sitting inside and drinking large glasses of whiskey I don't know."

The old "If yer aint with us, yer against us" mentality. Some things really die hard. Not doing a lot to shake the old American stereotypes, are we now? I feel bad for the sensible Americans who are accused of being unpatriotic. Kind of reminds me of the Salem witch hunts and the xenophobia of the 50's when everyone was afraid of the "communists" living in the country (of course there were none).

By the way, has anyone seen the movie "Bowling for Columbine"?

Also, I have had many pleasant experiences travelling through France. Yeah, sometimes people were a little unfriendly, but moreoften people were very friendly and helpful. And that as an anglophone travelling in a car with German license plates!

I ridicule this anti-french sentiment. It's childish and irrational. It's interesting to see how Americans had hitherto enjoyed french food, and anything else french. So what if they think going to war with Iraq is at this time a stupid idea. They are far from alone. Well, I guess we could call Russia and China sorry ecscuses for a country too eh? Yeah, let's all knock most of the world too shall we? The fact that so many today are bashing and boycotting the French for their own opinion and point of view, something that I believe the United States advocates, seems very fascist.

I think thats quite enough slander. Try to get some ideas out of your thick head.

1) America is not heaven.
2) George Bush is not God.
3) All our "poor pathetic countries" combined, can whoop America's ass big time.

Move out of your small, narrowed, stunted intelligence, and look beyond America. You'll be surprised at what you see.

Wait till the war ends. What effect do you think thats going to have on America's economy? It will not remain a superpower for too long now. Saddam Hussein will use biochemical weapons against USA, and not much of your "great country will be left.

USA had placed an embargo on Pakistan for quite some years now. Just before the vote for war was to be passed in the security council (which Pakistan is a member of), USA lifted its embargo. Why do you think so? Not because Pakistan had complied with the US demands which would get the embargo lifted. The embargo was lifted so that USA could secure a vote from Pakistan. Now isn't that just the sort of thing a slimy, sly, shady crook would do?

Please look before you diss any country again, America is not faultless, and is not the "BEST".

dave4164_Z

It is very unfortunate that there are people who are so narrow-minded as to actually believe stuff like this. The USA could be a great nation, however people outside the US read things like this and it just makes us all look like a bunch of uneducated chumps.

Please bear in mind, this type of thought is not the majority. There are many great people here, just like all around the earth. Their voices are just drowned out now by the sound of chanting and war drums.

The USA is still a young country, and, like any youth going through it's adolescence, has a lot to still learn. I pray that we can do so before we destroy ourselves.

Indian Airlines - now your just pathetic.

Do you really think Kong Kong, and all the other countries could stand a chance of fighting America in a war? Why not take a look our America's fleet of military equ. see how that stacks up against the others, you really don't see the point, America is the best country in the world, we have the most freedom than any other country in the world, we have a government willing to protect us, and if it involves killing people than so be it. This is America pal, we live and breath freedom everyday, we don't wake up, and have to worry about getting killed today because we don't like what our Commander In Chief is eating for breakfast!

And you say America is not heaven, Bush is not God, at least we agree on one thing, I don't beleive in that type of take, Bush being God, is what they do over there in Iraq, thats what Saddam is to his people, which he has brainwashed. Here our government is just as equal as a school teacher, they are here to protect the freedom of Americans, and run this country to the best of their ability, and a hell of a job they are doing, and why not add some peace to the world while their at it, by getting rid of Saddam that makes this world a better place for us, and you over there in the Land of Chop Suey, Saddam is nothing more than a tyrant to this world, get that through your head.

And you honestly believe that this embargo with Paki is "slim" "sly", we only are trying to get votes for one reason, and one reason only, TO PROTECT AMERICA, by that I mean take Saddam out, over here, we believe Saddam is a terrorist, which would be eliminated, so yea, the government is going to take massive steps to ensure the safety of America.

And you actually think Saddam is going to use biochemicals HERE in America? Not going to happen pal, the Asains over there may be distracted by a Panda, but not here, we will at all costs protect the safety of America, you think were not prepaird? You freakin wake up pal.

This is nothing more than a test, a test that shows America will handle this tyrant with ease, and professionalism, and we WILL show this world we will excel, we WILL pass this test.

Ok, so according to you, Russia, China, India and France (they are allies now, by the way) cannot defeat the USA if they wanted to. Well, if you are so naive as to believe that, then it will be useless trying to drill anything into your head.

I dont like what the commander in chief of any country eats for breakfast. That does not mean i will get killed. Open your eyes. America is not the only country that offers its citizens freedom. So it may be a bigshot power now, but it will not be so if they fight with Iraq.

So you can sit in your cosy little American home, and think your own American thoughts, and then when reality strikes, dont be surprised; you aren't invincible.

I'm not a person to take hate towards someone over such a stupid issue and especially when its someone i cant see.
