I need help with this one. I don't understand when you were talking about the red in it. Is it because of other people's monitors because it shows ok with mine(no red or other off colors.). Should I appeal?

Carl,
That is a scan from a print by the looks of it. The color of the sky on my calibrated monitor is purple. Is that the color of the sky in Chicago these days? Also, the grain and dirt spots are very prominent. There is blur on the aircraft, and the angle is less then appealing to me. Just my opinion, I'm sure you'll get others.

No I didn't scan from a print, it is from a slide and I had to downsize it to make it easier to upload and quicker too. It was a blue clear day when I took that with some clouds. Mabye it differs from whose monitor you see it from. I tried it at another monitor and it showed the same thing I see on this one.

I see no blue whatsoever. I agree, with Jeff, it is also pretty blurry.

How about you copy the image that you see on your monitor and show it here cause I don't understand. You talk about seeing no blue but I see blue in it. :shakehea: The sky I see is blue but I need to see what you see.

The photo has dust, and I see no blue either. Try adjusting your monitor.

I said I needed someone to show me what's wrong with it like a screenshot of your monitor's color settings and then I will know how you see it as. You have to show me instead of telling me or have any suggestions on the settings for my monitor. On my monitor has color manager and I have it has it at 9300K and 6550K, which one do I put it to?

Here are some more I need some people to help me fix.

Sorry about what I said in the last one if I make anyone mad. I wasn't getting it what you all were saying until I tried and now I may gotten it but I still need to know from you all.

I said I needed someone to show me what's wrong with it like a screenshot of your monitor's color settings and then I will know how you see it as.

Now why don't you just take a few moments and think about why that won't work.

You have to show me instead of telling me or have any suggestions on the settings for my monitor.

No Carl, you are the one asking for help. No one HAS to do anything. How can we possibly suggest settings for a monitor we cannot even see.

On my monitor has color manager and I have it has it at 9300K and 6550K, which one do I put it to?

Instead of bugging everyone here with your monitor issues, why not do some research and find out what to set it to. Adobe has a great free monitor calibration utility on line. There is no one magic setting for monitor color temperatures. It depends on many things, the age of your monitor, the type of light in the room it is in, etc. etc.

The new pictures you posted have a purple sky as well.

And the answer to your first question about why doesn't someone post a copy of what they see in your picture is because, IT IS THE SAME PICTURE YOU SEE!!!! Do you think something "happens" to your picture once it is on the internet? I could change the color to what I think is the correct color blue, but I did not see the real color as it was when the picture was taken.

Last time, Calibrate your monitor.

I just needed help with my pictures and for someone to explain to me what to do with photoshop to correct this. The last time someone helped me out with pictures I got it but now I try these but it still didn't work( I just want to know how to fix it like some of the Oshkosh pictures some people did here) and I try going to adobe to find it but they refer me to all these other things, I just wanted my photos fixed and now it's my monitor. I just want some help with the photos and someone give me the link to download the application for the monitor calibration settings. I was fustrated about this earlier, but someone find this for me!! I've been busy here today. I just wanted the link to the adobe application(or some other place I can find it at) and someone explain here how to fix the photos on photoshop.

I need someone to show me the link to help me with my monitor settings. I don't know how to calibrate my monitor!

I thought I got the hang of it but now i'm confused.

I took that one at the Blue angels airshow in July last year at Buckley AFB. I used a 500mm lens. Looks like it may have been a bit lower for you.

Here is some more pics, the quality is better on the actual print. They were scanned a while ago, and I didn't know how to get very good scan settings. I can'r find the originals either. :(

nice new Sig Jeff! Does the Navy use any F-16s (except agressors) ?

Hey Philip,
Thanks! I am not even sure if the Navy still uses the F-16N model. They had some at Miramar, Fallon, and Oceana for a while. The may have moved them down to Key West or some other place by now.

Jeff

What kind of scanner did you use and did you use adobe or some photo editing software?

Carl,

I hope you won't get discouraged and quit trying here, but since you began posting rejects they have had the same consistent problems. The first is that the color tones are heavily magenta weighted, especially the sky blue tones. Secondly they are generally soft in sharpness. Third, most are low contrast and have a slightly washed out look. Fourth, they often have a large amount of grain visible in the photo. Finally, there is often a great deal of visible dust motes and/or lint in the photos. This contamination is either in the original as it was processed or is being added during the scanning process.

To correct all these problems you will need to shoot with a fine grained film and adequate light. (Usually you do have good lighting, sometimes even too much.) Your shots have to be well focused and properly exposed. You need to find a good quality processing lab to ensure the best processing with the least contamination possible. (Ask other photographers you know in your area where they have their photos processed and compare their photos to yours for the overall quality. Use the processor that gives the best results.) When you scan try a variety of scanning settings and resolutions until you find the combination that gives the best consistent result. After scanning use a good post-processing program like Photoshop to clean up the imperfections in the scan and to sharpen and adjust for the best possible result. Before you do this however you need to be sure your monitor is showing you colors properly. If you don't see that magenta in your photos properly then no matter how many times people fix photos for you and post the result you will still not see them as correct. This is what Jeff was trying to tell you. I don't happen to have the link for the Adobe calibration program handy, but you can download a free monitor calibration program from the upload page over at A-net. It will help you optimize the settings on your monitor and that should go a long way toward helping you with your magenta problem. You have to see it to fix it after all.

I worked some on your first rejected photo in this thread, the A-10 shot. It had more problems than simply the magenta toned sky, including all the issues I mentioned earlier. I improved it some, but it isn't yet a good enough shot to be accepted here. I'm posting it here now in hopes that you will see the differences and get some ideas of the direction you need to go.

<IMG SRC=http://www.jetphotos.net/user-uploads/A-10_formation_Airshow_2003_b.jpg>

Finally, don't give up, just like any other artistic endeavor aviation photography takes a lot of practice to get good at it. You have to practice all the aspects too, not simply taking the photo. It's just as important to be good at the scanning and post-processing as taking the photo itself. Just keep working at all the aspects of the process. If you look through the older threads here you will find lots of others who had trouble getting their first shots accepted but still kept working to improve and they have come a long way. All of them improved through practice, experimentation to see what worked best, and from listening to the advice that was offered to them by the screeners and the posters here.
