Background:
For my 18th birthday I wanted to make a special trip with alot of new aircraft types. Eventually after a month planning (dates, flights,…) I finally put this trip together.

Pre-departure:
After my flight from Brussels I finally made it to the days in JFK at 1600. After a quick mail check and a shower I took the 1730 shuttle to the airport to do some spotting. Explored about every terminal. Looked at the european rush hours depart, A nice shot was 2 Delta 757’s on pushback at the same time. I suppose Delta 140 to Brussels and Delta 106 to Frankfurt. After dinner in Terminal 4, It was time to head back to the hotel. Underway I noticed Jet Airways 229 being pushed back as a start of its long journey to Delhi via Brussels. It was nice to see since I’ve seen this aircraft twice today (once in Brussels, and twice at JFK), unafortunaly the pic did not came out good. About 2100 I went to sleep and slept strait to 600 the next morning. After a breakfast I took the 830 shuttle to the Airport. 15mins later I was at the entrance of Terminal 8.

@ the Airport
Never used the machines before I was quite exited. So got checked in and got my pre-assigned seat 23J. Security was a breeze aswell. I must say Americans terminal 8 is quite impressive. Traffic wasn’t very variating, Only AA, to various destinations in the USA, Caribiean, and Latin America. At 1000 N77080 pulled up to gate 44. at 1115 boarding started. I was in Group 4.

Upon boarding it was a little diffrent than my Jet Airways flight yesterday. One FA stood at the boarding door not to enthiousast in the 1L galley there were 2 FA’s joking and laughing hard after a curtain, for the rest no F/A’s where to be seen almost until pushback. The plane was quite full, I sat besides a man from Columbia, on this flight there were a lot of Colombians onboard since AA 915 continues down to Bogota after its arrival. Pushback was on time and shortly therafter the saftey video was shown. About 12noon we started to lift up towards the south.

Soon thereafter the entertainment programming started. Headphones were at charge for 2 dollars. I did had my own (better :p) headphones. However there was not so much to see on the TV’s. At 1245 meal service started. Food cost 3 dollars, however there where just some snacks availible on this 3 hour flight. Nuts, a cookie or potato chips. Is this me? Or do LCC carriers offer more on similar flights? Well, whatever I got the cookie

After that I walked around the cabin to make some cabin shots, then I had a nice talk with the cabin crew. Time flew so fast in the back galley that once I returned to my seat we were already on descent into Miami.

About 1440 the captain announced that there was a hold due to bad weather and now we are going to continue to our descent. Tuchdown was at 1457, supposely AA 915 is a feeder flight to a lot of the Caribean/ South America locations. You can hear it on the purser’s announcement. After a short wait we arrived at 1509 at gate E9.

Unafortnualy, my flight details paper was not filled in due to security reasons, even got questioned upon landing, for precise details concerning my intentions. Appearently I wasn’t detailed enough. They asked me if I could be more detailed with my intentions. Well, we live and learn I guess. Just a hint for fellow aircraft spotters in the US. Spotting is ok, just be clear upon your intentions that it is for your own hobby. (If taking pictures, and there are officials in the neighboorhood, it never hurts asking, usually they don’t mind. (Is somthing I do)) Upon deplaning I did manage to get some pics.

Miami seemed to be a crowded airport but after recieving my lugage at around 1600 I was on my way to Palm Beach Gardens. Due to the bad trafic I got in at 1830.

As a bonus I would like to give a list of regs I spotted in JFK and MIA.

JFK: (while taxing out, didn’t wanted to look suspicous the night before writing everything down.)
N60067
N80057
N676AN
N33069
N77080
N635AA

MIA:
N77080
N639RW
N454AT
N7082AA
N50051
N7083A

My Total travel time was about 10hours and 1 min.

Thank you for viewing and stay tuned for part III (American ATR 72 Miami-Jacksonville)

Thanks for the referal to this flight review.:-)

True, AA really has a lot of fees and yes most LCCs do offer more food and beverage on their flights than the US legacy carriers. For instance, AA and UA no longer even offer any food for free on domestic routes, not even pretzels and US Airways, neither offers free food or beverage. Only CO offers free meals and blakets and pillows. UA still gives free headphones and pillows, blankets are available on request. However, even CO charges for headphones! I'm glad that you had carriered your own headphones and weren't suckered into paying $2 for a terrible pair. I sometimes wonder how an LCC like JetBlue or Southwest can offer so much more than the legacy carriers.

Anyway, now that I'm done ranting.:D Good job on the flight review. I like how you had lots of good pictures and videos, some of those photos may even be database worthy. It's also cool that you got to fly on an American Airlines Airbus A300-600R, as they won't be around for long. The entire fleet of A300s will be retired on August 31, 2009.

Rohan

You are welcome for the comment.

I just wanted to clear something up from original post. American Airlines does serve light meals (big cookie, big packages of nuts, potato chips, and pretzels) for free on flights of 3 hours or longer, in addition, to having a buy on-board menu. On fights shorter than 3 hours no food is served for free. Sorry for the mistake.
