Not as close as the Cayman/LAN one, but still not good.

And...NOW they're changing the procedures? lol

Also, this quote...hilarious

"FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown said a Delta Flight 123 was arriving at the airport Friday when the pilot decided to abort his landing and execute a "go-around" — a routine procedure often used during heavy congestion."

Oddly enough, this quote doesn't bug me too much.

Yeah, the writer doesn't have much of a clue and does miss the boat some...

But on the other hand, the writer does try to say that a go-around not a big dieal (aka routine), and is something that does "get used" during heavy congestion.

I guess that's better than suggesting this was a near-total air disaster!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a follow up to your article - and as a woe to spotters:

Dean Iacopelli, a representative for the New York National Air Traffic Controllers Association, said the FAA has "terminated that perpendicular simultaneous approach procedure."

Barrett Byrnes, who president of the controllers union at the JFK tower, said controllers have long sought the procedure changes.

"The FAA put out an order to JFK to no longer use that approach. That's exactly what we wanted to happen," Byrnes said. "We've been trying to change that for the last 12, 13 years. It's been an accident waiting to happen."

If you think that one is funny, look at this one. About the Cayman and LAN near miss, there was a reporter that wrote that the Cayman airplane had to perform "an aerobatic maneuver to avoid the 767". I really would like to see a 737 pulling a Cuban 8, a High Yo-Yo, or an Immelmann.

These reporters don't know how stupid they make themselves look sometimes.

A bank in excess of 60 degrees would have qualified

Do we know that the bank was in excess of 60 degrees? I'm sure most media people would probably consider a normal go around an "aerobatic maneuver".

Why is that a woe to spotters? :skeptic:
