Looks pretty bad. Assuming it could be repaired, would that even be worthwhile? IIRC, this is an ex-ANA plane that's seen its fair share of operations, not to mention countless cycles on domestic Japanese routes.

DHL/ABX has started a program to shrink the fleet since UPS will be taking over DHL's intra-USA flights.

^^Indeed, didn't think about that. Oh well, sadly one more 762 that won't grace the sky anymore.

Those 762s seem to have a knack for randomly catching on fire on the ground.

I bet the insurance company gets the aircraft repaired (and sold if DHL does not need it). I've seen more badly damaged aircraft repaired.

Yes, my assumption as well, the demand for airframes are high in that size due to the delays of the B787.

looks like a write-off. Some serious structural damage to the front section.

The Airport Fire Department was very on the ball, I looked out my window and the fire was distinguished within 4 or 5 minutes of breaking out. I didn't have time to go down there and take shots today, but if I get my ramp access soon. If I find out where they've put it for the time being, I will try to get some shots for you all.

I didn't know there is a 787F planned ;) .

Also going along with that some heavy structural rebuilt will be required. Should the residual value is not this hight, she's done for ... as far her future in one piece will be concerned. Some may rub their hands in glee by thinking of this engine sold there, the undercarriage sold here, ....

Doubt it. way too many unknowns with a aircraft fire. We had a P-3 catch fire, just burnt out the flight station. Was never even looked at for possible repair, it was one of the newest P-3's too. All of the P-3's that have caught fire have ended up scraped

How do you distinguish a fire?

I don't think that it will ever take off again. It's 22 years old, so even if there is a chance to repair it there would be maybe eight years to follow....
Sad, but just not worth it....

With the extent of damage visible I would assume at least four times the area has experienced some heat damage. If the door frames have been damaged repair would be extreamly costly. I would guess a write-off.
To find the extent of the heat damage to aluminum will require Rockwell hardness and conductivity tests.

Here is a photo on the NTSB site that shows a good view of the damage from over head. It looks like the fire burnt also through the floor inside.

Warning this is a big file 3.4 Meg in size.

Looks like someone had been in the cockpit and used an emergency egress rope to go out the co-pilot's window.
