And with good reason. If you read the article you'll know that some people don't really think the nosewheel's needed for anything other than taxiing!

But on the other hand, that statement's is similar in the fact that AA officials said something to the extent of the cancellations of M80 flights were occurring because the FAA was now checking wiring intensely (in other words, this whole mess wouldn't have happened if the FAA hadn't started checking the M80 fleet like this, we would have just kept on flying as usual :roll: )

I suppose they are technically right. If the nosewheel steering fails on takeoff they don't likely don't end up flying. If it fails while taxiying, then still no flying. If it fails on landing then they've already stopped flying.

Therefore, no danger to the "safety of flights". On the other hand, the issue of safety of crew, pax, airframe and other collateral damage would be another question altogether. ;-)
