While admittedely, 491 fatalities is still quite a bit, the fact they dropped from 703 the previous year is quite amazing to me. Even though the number of incidents increased from the previous year, this is the lowest total in 40 years. Over a 20 year period, the number of incidents have also dropped significantly.

Is that number correct? Between the TAM A320, Adam Air 734, Kenya 738 and One-Two-GO MD-82, that's already close to 500 deaths, and with a couple of smaller crashes in Africa and the Garuda accident, the number should be closer to 600 by my count  ?

Please, please. Don't thank me, I'm just happy to do my part keepin my ass in one piece. Makin the front page is painful,or painless depending on the circumstances, and in either case I want no part of it. ;)

As with all statistics, don't neccesarily take them at face value.

AS maintenance standards go up and aircraft companies produce more reliable aircraft, the number of incidents may go down. However with more airlines purchasing higher capacity aircraft, if there are incidents, the # of fatalities could increase.

Keep on keeping up the efforts to keep your ass in one piece.

We'd be very happy if no one ended up on the front page, or at least if they did, that they were all able to walk away. Using their one piece ass of course.
