Right now the Weather Channel is running a special called When Weather Changed History about the Delta 191 crash.

I'm always amazed when they run specials about air disasters, and they always fail to show video of the actual plane involved. From this show, one would get the impression that an L-10 and an MD-11 are both the same plane. Of course, only pilots and aviation enthusiasts pick up on these things.

In any case, it was a pretty good overview of what happened, and what didn't happen in the aftermath. They should've included background on the USAir crash in CLT, and how the FAA bought land from a guy to set up a Doppler radar site near the airport, and then put off actually installing it prior to the crash.

Is this the windshear at DFW crash?

Affirmative.

At the end they showed a cargo L-1011 in one shot. The Delta livery jet was most likely an MD-11; for some reason, they may not have had archive footage of a Delta L-1011.

The actual crash WAS an L-1011, NOT an MD-11. I do not believe Delta even had any MD-11s (or DC-10s) at that time

Right, DL didn't get the M11s till '93.

Right -- I just think they looked around for film of a trijet in Delta livery and were only able to find the MD-11 stock footage.

Here's a cgi recreation of the final minutes of the flight until they flew into the microburst and crashed.
