At first glance the reports seem to preclude a structural failure.

What reports are those? I don't know much more about this than what was posted here, but "the pilot was losing control when he ejected" wouldn't seem to rule that out.

Gizmodo had a simulation of the Missouri F-15 coming apart in November 2007.

Really awful, very bad day in the office for the pilot. It's fortunate that his office went with him while balance of the plane filed it's own impromptu flight plan.

It's here.

It would be interesting to know what the G-loads were. It's amazing the pilot managed to eject from his (very small) portion of the airframe.

Check out the Israel F-15 that returned home with the right wing gone almost to the wing root. Amazing that the plane could even fly let alone be controlled enough to land safely and in one (more or less) piece.
