Sorry to hear about the crash yesterday of BA's Boeing 777, G-YMMM at LHR. The report I heard said that this is the first crash ever of a Boeing 777. Is that true?

Yes, it is indeed true. First ever 777 crash, and as it appears also the first-ever 777 hull loss. Thankfully still no fatalities though. Granted, there was one fatality when upon refueling a BA 777 at DEN when a fuel hose seperated from the plane and a fueler was killed, but that can hardly be attributed to the 777.

Not the first 777 to be scrapped, however. One very early non-ER 200 parted out last year or year before. In fact, was once a British Airways machine.

Have heard that the engine trouble experienced by BA has been repeated on 6 other 777's, but don't know if any body damage was suffered.

Don't you think that would ground the fleet?
