Cool effect.

Let me guess, you had a slow shutter speed and panned the camera faster than the plane was moving, essentially making the plane seem to go backwards.....

To tell you the truth, I have no clue how this happened, I just took a photo with the 'night' setting on my camera, and whoa this showed up, I have a feeling that the aircraft just didn't show up as it flew over, and just the lights burned into the image!!!
