Here I am with scanner problems, the scanned pics don't look anything like the prints, here's a good example, an original scan:

The shadow of the wing on the fuselage doesnt look that dark on the print, the whole reg# is readable while it's not on the scan. I calibrated my scanner, but it didn't change anything, it's a Canon LIDE 30.
Please help,
Thanks a lot

Have you tried different scanning software? For example, scanning directly into Photoshop. It appears that your current software is interpretting all shades of gray as black. If your software allows it you might try scanning for true colors as well. It's a bit slower but might solve your problem.

When scanning a picture, you always lose image quality, especially when using prints and a flatbed scanner. The print itself already has less details than the original medium, the negative (or positive). Now when you scan the print you lose even more details, far more than the first time. Therefore you won't manage to get a digital image which has the same quality as a print or even the original negative. Expensive slide scanners make a huge difference, but still they are not capable of capturing all the details.
But nevertheless, you should get better results than the example you posted. Play around with the settings of your scanning software (reduce contrast, switch off auto functions etc.) and try to use another software which might have more options.
Good Luck :)
